No Review on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows...yet...

Almost a week of absence from blogging. My excuse is tat I was really busy with work...I guess tat does explain the weekday nights...but my past weekend was spent mainly reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Very shiok reading it!

I started reading on Sat morning and DID stop to maple during certain breaks from reading...then I will fall back into reading coz its really interesting. Although I feel certain stuff inside is a bit too draggy, it was still a good book. A "MUST READ" if u are a Harry Potter fan and a "SHOULDN'T MISS" for everyone else.

I surprised myself by bring the book to entertain me during my haircut. Amelia, my usual stylist, is on maternity (again)...so I took Kim's recommendation and visited Jack with Kim yesterday for my haircut. I wonder if guys are generally more gentle with ladies (as with the case of male doctors vs female doctors)...coz Jack is certainly gentler at handling our hair than Amelia...Amelia sometimes use brute force to comb my hair and even accidentally burned Kim once. So, conclusion - think Jack is more skilled than Amelia. Though the haircut was not done in the luxury of a salon, Jack's house has another kind of homey feeling where u feel at home while having ur hair done. Anyone, I was quite pleased with the result...a haircut plus highlighting my whole head cost me $80 only...I think Jean Yip would have charged $100++.

Despite reading the book from Sat to Sun, I only managed to finish the book this morning...think I am a slow reader? No lah, wats the rush? I am only reading it so enthusiastically coz I was interested to know wat wil happen to Harry. Anyway, I decided against doing a review on this book until much much later (maybe after I read it a second time)...coz if I did a review now, it will be a spoiler for pple who chance upon my blog. I dun wan pple writing angry remarks in my tagboard for tat. So if u are really interested to read the book...go buy one or contact me if u wana borrow, though u might have to wait for ur turn.

But I must say tat I wasnt totally surprised by the ending, I DID managed to guess some parts although I havent got the whole puzzle together :P

So, of coz I was excited when the last book was published and sold in Singapore :)

My sis-in-law was very nice in helping to purchase the book at a discounted price for me and though I was a few days later than others to get my hands on the book, I din really mind.

Yeah...I am finally going to find out wat will happen to Harry Potter. Only sad thing is...I am so busy with work lately tat I wonder when I can find time to really read the book T_T ...I even fell asleep reading the first chapter last night coz I was too tired (NO, I din fall asleep coz the book is boring! Of coz NOT!)

Well, will write a review abt the book soon.

    Short Circuit

Experience my first "short circuiting" experience yesterday. NO, I dun mean me getting "sot"! Arghh...wat were u thinking!

I was busy getting ready for work yesterday morning when the electricity suddenly got cut off. Then I went to the main power switch board to check and fiddled with the switches for a while before I gave up coz I need to rush to work. So, I set all the switches to off, just to be safe. Was worried about the fishes and wonder if they will have sufficient oxygen since the fish tank motors are not working. I din even give a second thought abt my fridge, until my eldest bro pointed out to me and said tat the food inside will probably go bad (haiz...till now, I still din go check if anything in the fridge has gone bad...)

Was distracted at work coz of this...kept thinking about the fishes and the food in the fridge. Then I was worried abt not having electricity at night - No lights, no aircon, no computer/TV...it will be a disaster! U might think its funny...but since the rest of my family are overseas, its a rather scary thought to be home alone in a dark house with no electricity. T_T

So, although I had dinner plans with my new colleagues, I turned them down last minute (hope they dun think I am anti-social) and said tat I had to go home before the sun is down and there is still light for me to try the switches. My eldest bro "zhong suan you liang xin" (ie. does have conscience), coz he came over in the evening, abt 7pm plus and tested the switches. Both of us was puzzled when playing with the switches in the main power switch board did not help. Then he called the town council and they told him to try the 2 main switches at the "Power Box" outside our house. We could not open the box and they had to send pple down, only to find out tat we tried opening the box in the wrong way :P ...Felt so silly...

Finally we had the electricity back on! It was such a relief! Then we tried all the switches in the house to find the faulty one. Strangely, we could not find which appliance short circuited the whole house. Then my bro had to return home to his family...so me alone in the house again...but at least there is electricity. After I had my dinner and was mapling, suddenly blackout again!...haiz...at least this time I din panic...just took the torchlight beside me and went out to the Power Box and on the switch again. Still, I dunno whether its the fish tank motor or fridge which short circuited the whole house. Sigh...yeah...hopeless!

So, next time any of u have power failure problem...dun panic...just try both the main power switch board in ur house and the power box outside ur house.

The whole incident din end badly, except for 1 casualty: 1 of the gold fish died...the fattest gold fish some more...and my bro made this comment "Yah, the fattest one, tats why its dead." ??? Fat then can breathe in less oxygen??? Wat kind of logic is tat?

Anyway, too bad I was not back minutes earlier....coz when I transferred the fishes to a temporary pail of water when I got home, most of them were half-dead and gasping for breath...tat fat fish was already floating like dead but its gills was moving slightly...so shld have an ounce of life in it...but I was late....

At least it had a full meal before dying.....(I overfed the fishes in the morning)

Oh gosh...got to go...I forgot to throw the plastic bag which contains the dead fish! Eeee...later smelly...bye!

    Nostalgia & Loneliness

I logged onto Friendster moments ago and was checking out various frens' profiles for their updates. Was not surprised to see many many changes as I have not been logging into my Friendster account regularly.

As I read, I grew more nostalgic at the sight of my "old" frens' pics and wat big changes I saw! Time really flies...I miss some of my frens there...then I started feeling lonely. Havent felt this way for a long long time...since I was so caught up with my busy schedule these days.

To My Frens: Forgive me for not keeping close contact with all of u. I will try harder k...

    I AM LONELY COZ...

I AM NEW AT MY WORKPLACE
I COME HOME TO EAT DINNER ALONE
I EAT DINNER WITH ONLY THE TV AS COMPANY
I MAPLE BUT THERE IS NO ONE ONLINE
I GO YOGA ALONE WHEN MY FREN IS NOT FREE
I HAVE THINGS TO SHARE ABOUT MY DAY BUT THERE IS NO ONE TO SHARE WITH
I FEEL LIKE GOING OUT FOR DINNER ON WEEKENDS BUT FRENS HAVE THEIR OWN PLANS

    AND ETC. ETC.

Harry Potter - Order of the Phoenix

    harry potter-order of phoenix

Went to watch the latest Harry Potter movie on wed with Su and gang. I was pleased to find the movie rather enjoyable. Though there are quite a bit of changes they made to the movie tat doesnt really tally with the storybook, the changes are rather minor and bearable. This episode (ie. Order of the Phoenix) is definitely better than the last movie - Goblet of Fire. However, I did find the fighting sequence towards the end very confusing. With Death Eaters flying around like some dark cloak shadows (....no wait, I think those shadows flying around looked more like the Dementors and not the Death Eaters...keke...). To top tat off, the pple from the Order of the Phoenix also flew around, and as white shadows no less. Then the fight between Lord Voldermort and Professor Dumbledore was like a play of lasers....haha...

Anyway, its a movie worth watching. So go ahead and grab a ticket.

    "Mad Rush"

I took a ride from my bro this morning to work after a break of 2 weeks. Since I started my new job, I set off to work later as I din wana reach office too early for fear tat I would have nothing to do there. But as I said in my last post, my "honeymoon" was exceptionally short, so I decided there is no harm in going to office early to clear a bit of work.

Taking the MRT from Tiong Bahru to Raffles Place, then walking to Robinson Road at 7am plus was surprisingly quite a relief. Though there are pple travelling to work at that time, there wasnt the usual "MAD RUSH" tat I absolutely hate!

Normally when I reach Raffles Place MRT at 8.30am, there will be endless streams of pple coming out of the train station and walking in various directions (eg. towards UOB Plaza, Robinson Road, Shenton Way, etc). In such instance, although I am in no rush to get to work, I HAVE TO FOLLOW the flow of the streams of pple so tat I do not collide into pple or fall over and end up getting stomped. I cannot walk in a leisurely speed and had to widen my steps and walked as if I am rushing for time just like the rest of them....sigh....I HATE THIS MAD RUSH!!!

Yes, I understand the handful of pple who could not wake up early and had to rush so tat they will not be late for work...but why must EVERYONE RUSH??!!! Now I know where the phrase "Rush Hour" comes from.

Hmm...but I wonder...how about after work? Must EVERYONE RUSH to go home??? Must they RUSH to meet their appointments??? Must they RUSH to leave the office???

Is this the price of globalisation?

I MISS PERTH...with their slower pace of life, I have actually seen families strolling and having picnics in parks early in the morning on weekends...I should start saving my travelling fund already...time to start planning a trip to Australia again... ^^

Going to watch Harry Potter - Order of the Pheonix tomorrow with Su and gang. Hope I can knock off from work on time *cross-fingers*.

    A Crazy Week Gone By

Gosh, a week just went by without me realising. It has been crazy trying to adjust to my new workplace. I was expecting a short "honeymoon" at my new workplace but I din expect tat it could be this short...zzz....2nd week into the job and my superior and colleague are both passing me work to do...haiz, not tat I mind the occasional OT hours but the feeling of unfamiliarity and uncertainty when I do work which I have not got a grasp on is quite unnerving.

Find tat my appointment book is quite full lately...hehe...wat with work, yoga and meeting up with frens. So much so tat I was away from blogging for sooo long...sorry for not updating more often.

Now, I am sure u are dying to hear updates on my past week (ok, if u are not interested, can just PRETEND?)

I will skip last weekend coz nothing special happened but I find tat I am slipping nicely into the routine Sunday morning yoga sessions. :)

    Mon, 9 Jul
Met Jenny for lunch...such a long time, I really MISS this fren of mine. Glad to see tat she have not changed tat much. I would absolutely hate it if she had totally changed and I wasnt a part of her life when she was undergoing those changes. But I did noticed tat she seems more confident now (maybe this comes with age) and think tat would benefit her more when interacting with pple.

Then I met some Primary School ex-classmates for dinner at Sakae Sushi, Kovan. Finally, I got enuff receipts to get a member card from Sakae and was happily requesting for tat at the cashier when they told me it is no longer available coz they are upgrading the membership program and no longer issue member card now. T_T So disappointed wo...thanks for the receipt KW...but then no use for it already. Haiz...not fated lah.

We proceed to one of my ex-classmate's house after dinner and played a bit of Wii...played some stupid memory game of sorts but I find it a perfect thing for kids who cant be bothered with the many controls on computer and handheld joysticks/controllers. Easy for younger kids too...should ask my bro to consider tat for my niece and nephew.

    Tue, 10 Jul
    The usual work and yoga.

    Wed, 11 Jul
Met with Gwen for dinner at a Charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant at Tanjong Pagar. Thereafter we went to shop ard at Chinatown to digest the food a bit. I feel bad abt not answering her sms as much as I did last time.

TO ALL FRENS: Sorry for not replying promptly to ur sms-es or calls lately coz I cannot carry my hp abt in the office and din feel safe putting it on my desk, therefore my hp is always in the drawer now. And being as deaf as me...I dun really hear it sometimes. Much apologies and I will TRY to check it more often for sms-es and missed calls and reply asap k!

    Thu, 12 Jul
The usual work and yoga. But I had an interesting trip on the MRT on way back home. KW and I was observing a couple of pple on the train (normally train rides tend to be boring with pple onboard whom u will never bother to give a 2nd look).

Firstly, there was this musician (guy with a guitar..so I am guessing he is a musician) who looks awfully familiar to me (I still cant recall who is he...diaoz, me old liao) and KW said he is not local (from his accent).

Secondly, there were 2 guys sitting opposite us who were sharing earphones and listening to music together. Wat puzzled me was tat they were sitting kinda close and their legs & thighs were touching each other...erm, wonder if they are "an item"...but then, they look soooo different...1 of them was like this macho macho type of chinese guy and the other is a well-built Indian guy...not the ordinary kind of gay couple we see outside right? Then later on, another Indian guy (I suspect he is an insurance agent) standing near them started chatting with the well-built Indian guy and even sat down beside him when the macho guy left. Think they exchange numbers after tat. Hmm, would u give ur hp no. to a complete stranger who also happens to be an insurance agent????

Lastly, this one is probably the most horrible sight tat night. I saw this teenage boy wearing his dirty school PE uniform (the school name is "Joseph..." something de) boarding the train and standing in front of me with his back facing me. First thing he did when he stood there was to use his right hand to scratch his inner thigh (this is where I am presuming he scratched coz I din see clearly...thank god I cant see it clearly..whew!) and pulled his shorts after tat. Then he used the same right hand to go up and held on to the ceiling hand rail...ewww...then saw him shift his legs uncomfortably a few times and later on did the scratching act again. KW joked and said tat he might have pee-ed in his shorts....zzzz...

    Fri, 13 Jul
My first OT at my new workplace. Din accomplish much though and even brought some simple reading materials home to work on. Knocked off at 8pm plus. Hope this does not become a habit.

Not a bad week huh? No pics to show for my week...I am a lousy blogger...keep forgetting to take pic. So frens, next time we are out together, remember to remind me to take pics so tat I can post them in this blog!

    A Day with OLD Friends ^^ !!!!

3rd day into my new job and things still feel new to me but I am trying to adjust. I dun have a gauge whether I like or dislike the job yet...so I guess have to wait and see.

KC, thanks for sharing abt ur own doubts on ur new job...hope it doesnt sound cruel but its good to know tat I am not alone in those feelings of insecurity I have in going to a new workplace. We jiayou k!

Today was overall a good day though...spent some quality time with OLD FRIENDS too! So glad tat KW, Sha and CKC agreed to meet me for lunch. Though it was a simple meal of nasi lemak...it was nice to have lunch and talks over familiar topics with familiar faces and voices. Think I shld ask them out for lunch more ^^

Best thing was tat I managed to meet Sha again for dinner with Su. Had prior arrangement with Su and Sha surprised us by joining us last minute. Yeah, fickle minded lady...so happy tat I called u on the eleventh hour and u decided to join us. We had dinner at Ichiban, Esplanade though Su is not really into Jap food...Su, hope u like the food we ordered though. Thanks for accomodating to our choice/taste of food. Here are some happy pics we took there....as u can see, we ordered A LOT of food...too much for 3 persons...hehehe...

    First Day of Work Again

Today marks the first day of my work at a new environment. Think I hate being in an unfamiliar environment and having to adapt and adjust to new things. Gosh, I sound like those inflexible oldies who are hindrance to advances and improvements.

Anyway, my new colleagues are pretty nice and easy going (so far from first impressions). And as there are others who like me are reporting for their first day at work, well...it felt less awkward and under less scrutiny. However, after hearing them talk abt some technical terms and matters at workplace, I do feel as if I am in outer space hearing alien language. Sigh...I have a LONG....long.....way to go.....

    Wish me luck frens!

PS: Haiz...I developed a headache when I was knocking off today. I wonder if its the sweets I took today or the naggy thought of learning new things and expecting stressful work in future. Wonder if this is indeed the job for me.

    "Sinful" Saturday

I had a "sinful" saturday having a feast with Kim and frens last saturday. Mabel bailed out on us last minute...so I ended up being the "ah sum" there T_T

We had 2 chilli crabs (really yum yum!), 1 spring chicken, cheese fondue and chocolate fondue! It was purely an eating gathering...

We even made some chocolate cherries and strawberries to refrigerate. ^^
    Chocolate Fondue

After dinner, we had a good time lazing around and watching a Japanese Anime "Ichigo Mashimaro" which is translated to strawberry marshmellow. Only problem with the sinful night is the heat....damn its really hot lately.

    Last Week at IPTO

I have officially left IPTO, my last workplace, on Friday. I was too busy to blog during the week and was in fact swamped with work during my last week of service there...amaze amaze....zzzz....I heard enuff stories to know tat this happened to all the ex-officers nearing their last day. In fact, I deliberately work late on Wed and Thu till 8pm plus so that I do not have to rush and be late to knock off on Friday as I was on half day leave on my last day.

It was somewhat a blur now tat I tried to recall wat I did for the week. Only had the idea tat I was between rushing work and updating the status for all my cases. Tough handing over as everything was cramped till the last day.

I will miss my colleagues there...though some of us had our differences, I feel tat its a nice place to work in and working relation was not strained to the extreme...though maybe irritation for some colleagues (eg. maggot) will be higher than the rest.

Here are some pictures of my colleagues (ex-colleagues now)...pics were all taken some time ago before some of them left.

Here are the pics of the farewell gifts I received! Forgot to take pic of the voucher given by KBP, Jess and Mel :P

    Anyway, THANKS ALL!!!

    Sudoku

Gosh, I havent blog for nearly 1 whole week. Been busy during my last week of work. Anyway, will post another entry on my work week tat just passed later.

This post is dedicated to my new found addiction to Sudoku.

Nope, I din buy the Sudoku board game...I played it on my new hp! ^^ Its a really cool game. I used to not understand wat the game was abt...din understand how those pple fill in the numbers in those squares. Initially I tot the whole purpose of the game is NOT to have consecutive numbers at the sides of each number. But I was totally wrong!

The normal Sudoku game has 9 sets of 9 boxes board. Each set is suppose to be filled with the numbers 1 to 9. And each row and column is also to have the numbers 1 to 9. Each row, column and each set of 9 boxes is NOT suppose to have the same number.

Its hard to explain the game, so u all just have to try to know k!
